So if you've already got a
cellphone,
Xbox,
MP3 player, and
SD card that's been adorned with that precious Hello Kitty smile, there's still a few more aspects of your life that could use a little
kawaii. Some, um, creative (read: obsessed) minds have apparently crafted a steel exhaust tip that will show those pesky tailgaters just what you adore. If you need just one more bolt-on to complete the pimping of your ride, and
blowing flames seemed a bit too extreme for your 4-banger, this should fit the bill nicely. While it's unlikely these will show up anytime soon in your local automotive store, we're sure someone in Japan can give you the scoop on this fantasmical add-on, and something tells us he's acquainted with Bubb Rubb.

Before I embarked on my year abroad in Japan, I got a bunch of my female Japanese friends together and asked them for advice. This of course included advice on meeting and interacting with Japanese women. One of them said I should get a bright pink shirt and iron on a huge Hello Kitty with along with the slogan "I [Heart] Kitty-chan !!!" (Kitty-chan of course being what they call it here). It might not scream masculinity, she reasoned, but it would get me noticed, and would make it virtually impossible for me to seem threatening...
Yeah...right...
Despite the fact that she was probably joking, remind me to thank her for that advice...it actually turned out to be some of the most effective stuff I got that night...
Just thought I'd share (and it's almost on topic...)...
Lin @ Sep 7th 2006 5:25AM
it's very nice idea
Teddy-O @ Sep 7th 2006 6:04AM
I like that alot. Definitely the coolest exhaust tip I've seen in a while.
Teddy-O @ Sep 7th 2006 6:07AM
Oddmanout, have you ever heard of Charisma Man? Maybe you don't need a pink hello kitty t-shirt. *laugh*

I, for one, welcome our kitten-toting, fume spewing overlords.
iptydafu @ Sep 7th 2006 6:49AM
I think Hello Kitty's hungry for a banana.
Prince @ Sep 7th 2006 6:51AM
That must be an addition to my wonderful Vespa. 8D

Oddmanout: That's the funiest thing i've read this morning.
This is the strangest Hello Kitty item i've seen. What's next, pregnacy kits?

Is it April first already?
Rusty @ Sep 7th 2006 7:46AM
The thing I don't understand about these tail pipe do-dads is this......are you really trying to make your car sound like an outboard boat engine? Have you ever heard a V8 engine in a vintage muscle car? I guess it is a generational thing. I don't get it why you would want the engine in your car sounding like it is a boat out of water?
strider_mt2k @ Sep 7th 2006 7:56AM
If that bow doesn't spin then no deal.
Tek @ Sep 7th 2006 8:21AM
I don't think Hello,Kitty promotes car exhaust... But I could be wrong, ha. I've met many Hello,Kitty lovers, but most draw the line at toasters. I mean...honestly.
alex @ Sep 7th 2006 8:41AM
i can't see hello kitty fangirls tricking out their cars like this. aren't custom exhausts supposed to make you bold and rebellious or something? hello kitty is just too cute.
its like making a grenade that not only explodes into shrapnel, but spews out flowers and bubbles and plays music too.
Vince @ Sep 7th 2006 9:25AM
Strider, I was thinking the same darned thing. Yup, that'd be pretty cool, all I need is a car to go with it.
Rusty, you don't get behind your car much, do you. It's just the muffler tip, not the resonator. This won't make your car sound like an outboard engine? heh-heh.

Actually, I'm severely disappointed at Engadget and its readers now. This is, like, old. I've seen it posted on some imageboard on 2005-09-13 - that's almost a freaking year. And it might date even further back...
So, engadget, no cookie for you.
Enrique @ Sep 10th 2006 10:00PM
Why?

It looks like it's time for a Engadget Hello Kitty site, or Hello Kitty Fanboy (Fangirl?)
