And before all of that was Digimarc. they had a technology that encoded a watermark in an image and would take you to a website. this was all way before phones had cameras in them though and you had to use a webcam attached to a pc. the only magazine i ever saw it used in was popular mechanics. it was a cool idea way ahead of its time.
