"Anti-violence" electrode shock gun brings the (non-lethal) pain
Although we've seen a variety of different non-lethal weapons come and go, all that choice has led to a dilemma for the riot-trooper on the go: what to pick? Skunkbombs? The laser rifle? The Taser shotgun? Techwise is hoping to eliminate all that decision-making with their "anti-violence" electrode shock gun -- a pistol-shaped not-a-weapon which accommodates cartridges for virtually every type of non-lethal force you can imagine: a 30KV pulse charge that can incapacitate a person up to 3 meters away, rubber bullets, paint capsules for marking offenders in a crowd, an "electric stick" stun gun mode, and a pepper cartridge, which Techwise claims causes extreme discomfort at up to 5 meters. Our favorite, though, has got to be the ultra-bright Xenon light used for "giddying," or assaulting a person's senses to make them dizzy and lightheaded -- something that sounds to us like they expect you to run up to the bad guys and shine a flashlight in their eyes. We'll stick with the pain gun, if you don't mind.

Okay, who here has seen Judge Dredd?
fearless_fx @ May 8th 2007 2:02AM
Owning one of these could make you the hit of many parties... Beer + electrode shock gun FTW!
Emceay @ May 8th 2007 3:01AM
pffft. 'non-lethal' weapons will do a fantastic job if the third amendment gets circumvented.
Dave @ May 8th 2007 2:40AM
Right. Severe pain and debilitation with potential long-term side effects is better than...apprehension and detainment? I guess it makes it easier anyway--and that's what really matters. So what if it possibly qualifies as torture?

WHAT riots? Are they expecting us to get mad about something? Paranoid bastards, pointing pain guns at us when we protest Bush. Somehow I don't think they're gonna be pointed at those giant Christian protest marches, or at the loons performing abortion clinic seiges.
Ben @ May 8th 2007 7:21AM
"Somehow I don't think they're gonna be pointed at those giant Christian protest marches"...?
There's a large difference between a peaceful protest march (however giant it may be), and a riot that endangers persons and property. One is a necessity in democratic society, and I hope no one here proposes limits on that; the other infringes on others' rights and freedoms and should be controlled by lawful means.
Having said that, since when is a firearm 'not a weapon' just because it's non-lethal? See how far you get trying that line with airport security...

being whacked over the head with a baton, or being shocked. I'll get shocked any day

things like these make me nervous. it's already been proven that most
cops are bullies. when you give them the choice of how to inflict pain
and terror, they abuse that power every single time. Just ask the tv
news reporters in Los Angeles.
Finite @ May 8th 2007 3:32AM
"it's already been proven that most cops are bullies."
Proven, eh? So, it's a fact then? I must have missed that episode of Mythbusters because I really can't recall anyone ever PROVING that the majority of police officers are in fact power-hungery, abusive bullies (taking from elsewhere in your comment).
Now, I could be wrong, but I have the strange feeling that it's actually opinion that you're talking about. A pretty silly one at that. Just because you know some officers which, in your opinion, are the above, doesn't mean all or most officers are the same way. If, say I knew three people of minority 'a' and they were all drug dealers, would it be correct for me to say it's proven that most people of minority 'a' are drug dealers? ..yeah.. that would be wrong, but no different than what you're doing.
These would be more apt to be facts:
Cops are put into a position of authority, some abuse it, some people hate figures of authority, people are like children, someone has to police a population to keep those with low morale in line.
jptech @ May 8th 2007 4:32AM
60 officers from the LAPD metro B riot squad were taken off the streets for abusing their authority and firing rubber bullets at everyone who was moving. Lest ye forget hitting reporters with their batons. If you're close enough to make contact with a baton, you're close enough to see the NBC or FOX logo on the camera or microphone.

Any chance of a multi-barrel version like in Aliens?
Blind them with the pepper or the xenon lights, get close and shock them so they fall over, use the ziptie cannon to bind their hands, mark them with a paint cartridge (so there's a record of which officer made the arrest, as each would have a different color) and if they try to run, shoot them in the legs with a rubber bullet.
You could incapacitate a person and prep them for arrest in mere seconds. The perfect tool for outnumbered law enforcement agents or ambitious rapists.

is there more than one trigger, or do all these delights fire at once?
Matt Hadder @ May 8th 2007 5:59AM
Awesome!
Also, it should only operate in 'fully-automatic'haha!
Also @ Finite & jptech, you should check into the Stanton Prison study prisonexp.org shows what can happen in a few days to people given authority over others.
grable @ May 8th 2007 8:35AM
Quite a lot of people has died from being tazerd, so its far from non-lethal.
steve @ May 8th 2007 3:52PM
So, to fill up those ticket quotas, all drivers given the sobriety test will be shot with this device if it looks like they'll pass. That'll teach those overachievers a lesson.
DarkFader @ May 8th 2007 4:01PM
This would be great for countries that does not allow lethal weapon possession. Now we ALL can run around and uhm... never mind.
Ben @ May 8th 2007 6:18PM
"This would be great for countries that does not allow lethal weapon possession."
haha are you serious? Here in New Zealand the police were recently introduced to Tasers and there's huge controversy over whether this is a good idea.
The general sentiment is, when the police don't have weapons the thugs don't need weapons to fight back, ergo, a less violent society. Seems to me police need more protection cause some places are getting pretty damn violent but it seems clear it would contribute to escalating violence as well as making the police safer.
Chuckles McGee @ May 8th 2007 9:19PM
Ah yes, anti-violence shock guns. These will be well implemented by the Ministry of Peace.
Eric @ May 9th 2007 4:00PM
Do any of these "features" penetrate riot shields?
