I agree with you. Its amaizing how "those people" have stripped Africa of her best raw materials and left the entire continent disheveled and uneducated considering how powerful her economy might be using Diamonds and oil as traded resources.

I think I'm going to get my future wife a cubic zirconia or a moissanite (artificial diamond) in an 18K White gold band. If she ever finds out it isn't a true diamond I'll tell her "I didn't want real diamond because it fuels wars and conflicts in poor countries - F*ck DeBeers.

but if the true market price of diamonds was actually in practice, the market would go find some other semi-precious stone to put in an engagement ring. Price fixing is funny like that, as well as perceived value.

I'm sure in true market value a 1 carat diamond is probably like $50.

Well all the "diamonds are evil" whining aside the box looks kinda tacky, not something I would give my wife/fiancia.

As far as the whole "diamonds are evil" thing I really don't care my wife's wedding ring cost me 15k and it was worth every penny. I guess I could have bought some cheap knock off diamond like thing but that just isn't my style. It's like saying that she's not worth the real thing so I got her this cheaper thing instead sorry but she's worth more to me than that. I don't care where the diamond came from or what it took to get it I just care about the end result. Just like I don't care how the chicken or cow is killed just so long as my dinner tastes good. This may make me a bad person to some but I really only care about what one person on this spinning muddball thinks of me and she loves me very much.

A diamond doesnt say how much you're willing to spend on your wife. Because not all diamonds come from Africa a good number of the best ones come from Alaska. I don't get that argument. You say you don't want to buy a cheap knock off ring because your wife is worth those $15,000 a real one cost.. But why is that the roof? Is that all she's worth to you? How come you didn't get her the $25,000 ring? or the one for $40,000?

Claiming that a $98 ring says "I don't think you're worth more than $98" implicitly means that a $15,000 says "I don't think you're worth more than $15,000".. Sure, 15k can seem like a lot of money, but seriously, it's nothing. I would never sell my love for that cheap.. Would you?

If we all start talking about wars and how many people die in the cultivation and transportation of a real diamond, I will go back to this quote about measuring love in dollars or pounds. You must consider that everyone knows exactly what goes into obtaining diamonds, and in that case, love is not only measured in dollars and pounds-- but additionally in bloodshed and brutality. By purchasing a diamond for a loved one, you are saying that you care for them enough to kill for them, and directly fund and order these actions to prove this kind of dedication to her.

Also, just to clarify to everyone that has this arguement that manmade diamonds are just as "real" as ones from DeBeers (because that seems to be the only company anyone cares to say anything about), the definition of a diamond is that it must be naturally crystallized. NATURALLY MEANS NOT MANMADE.

Chemical makeup is not a determinator of value. Perception is reality. There is no reality other than the perceived reality, and age and natural creation yields more significance. Think about perception.

I am especially thankful that my wife is not all about the quality of diamonds or big into jewelery. When we first met she has always told me that she is more about the quality of my personality, who I am, my values, how i respect and treat her as well as her friends & family, not some stupid stone. I know my wife would be quite mad if i spent 15K on a diamond for her when it could have went to other expenses regardless if i have that kind of money or not.

Now that IMO is the perfect type of woman. It's not often that you can find a woman like that, especially in America. Honestly I think that if your fiance/girlfriend/wife thinks your relationship status depends solely on the quality of diamond you hand her then she is shallow trash, or a gold digger. I'm not at all saying that spoiling her is dumb, by all means you should spoil her. I always find time to spoil my wife with flowers, spontaneous trips to new and romantic places, on certain occasions & events, and other many various ways. It's when they "Expect" these things or else you are in the "dog house" is where i draw the line. Those kind of women can never be pleased. They're the type that if they can't get that kind of 'spoiling' from you they will find someone else who can, or fantasize about that person.

The only good kind of woman, from my experience, is the type that appreciates you for who you are not how much you are willing to spend to prove your worth to her. Don't waste your time with people like that. It's just not worth your time, your hard earned money, and health (stress).

GOing back to the original subject I think this is a quite interesting concept that might actually sell well to the tech savvy world.

Umm, hello, I may be the only actual girl looking at this thread so ya'll might wanna listen up. I got engaged two months ago. I said I absolutely did not want a diamond, maybe something art deco or an aquamarine. And, we looked around and then he said could we just "Please go to Tiffany's and take a look." And, I was like fine. I'm not getting anything from there. And, we went and I fell in love with a simple solitaire ring right away.

And, I still stood my ground and said we needed to think about it, and I couldn't stop thinking about it and we came back and got it the next day and I love it!!!!!!!!!!!

I look at it all the time and it winks and sparkles and it will last forever.

Especially since I don't wear a lot of jewelry the fact that I have one beautiful piece that was purchased with love and promise of a joyful life together makes me really happy.

It is not big and it is not ostentatious, but it is beautiful. Sooo, don't be cheap asses!!!
